Role: Principal Software Engineer leading the architecture, design, and development of Windows-based ophthalmic medical device software at Alcon. Objectives: drive software technical strategy, ensure high-performance, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and support next-generation diagnostic and surgical platforms. Responsibilities: oversee all software lifecycle phases, influence engineering best practices, collaborate with systems engineering, hardware, quality, regulatory, and product management teams, mentor engineers, and evaluate emerging technologies for scalability and reliability. Qualifications: Bachelorβs or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related; 5+ years of relevant experience; proficiency in C#, .NET, WPF/XAML, MVVM, C, C++, and Microsoft tech stack; strong understanding of software architecture, systems debugging, and healthcare interoperability standards. Preferred: experience in FDA-regulated medical devices, medical imaging, signal processing, and ophthalmic technologies; familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM); hardware-software integration skills; experience working onsite in Lake Forest, CA, with regular in-person collaboration.
