Role Summary
Principal at Sanofi Ventures based in Cambridge, MA. Supports the generation of new investment ideas, leads and conducts due diligence, and manages and supports existing investments. As the role grows, opportunities to lead deals and take board observer or director seats are expected, requiring the ability to integrate information across diverse therapeutic areas to drive investment conclusions.
Responsibilities
- Investment Analysis: Provide detailed analytical and due diligence support on new investment opportunities; work with technical and business teams to evaluate opportunities and solicit input from senior investment professionals, R&D, advisors, and others on prioritization and selection of candidates; actively lead due diligence, including calls with KOLs, physicians, scientists, and consultants; perform market analysis and build therapeutic market and financial models; support and lead deal negotiations.
- Portfolio Management And Deal Tracking: Track, triage, and maintain new and active deal opportunities; prioritize high-interest opportunities; oversee existing portfolio companies by taking board observer (and ultimately full director) seats when appropriate; provide analyses and recommendations for selling of public company positions.
- Active Team Member: Participate in SV activities, represent SV externally, prepare presentations and reports for quarterly investment meetings, contribute to Investment Committee materials, and present deal recommendations; engage in panels, pitch competitions, and other speaking engagements; adapt responsibilities as needed by business requirements.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree; minimum of 5 years of relevant Life-Sciences industry experience with a preference for at least 4 years at a venture capital firm with direct investment analysis and due diligence; alternative pathways include top-tier investment banking, healthcare-focused consulting, or biopharma R&D/Business Development.
- Preferred: Masters/MD/PhD; MBA considered for those without industry experience.
- Required: Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); ability to build trust with management of invested companies; strong technical and organizational abilities; hardworking, results-oriented, and ethical.
