Principal Research Scientist I β Analytical Project Leader (NCEs)
Responsibilities:
- Apply analytical separation/detection for complex impurity profiling to advise molecule selection.
- Generate new scientific proposals; lead efforts and develop strategies in response to scientific/regulatory advances or competitive threats.
- Demonstrate initiative and creativity; maintain high lab productivity.
- Foster innovation and manage it to realization.
- Raise the bar and continuously improve.
- Understand and comply with safety, quality, regulatory policies and government regulations.
- Contribute as an analytical project lead managing CMC deliverables for early-phase clinical development and discovery programs.
- Collaborate across global Analytical R&D and cross-functional partners (Discovery, Pre-Clinical Safety, Process Chemistry/Engineering, Molecular Profiling & Drug Delivery, Drug Product Development, Quality Assurance, CMC-Regulatory).
- Provide 50% on-site support at AbbVie Bioresearch Center (Worcester, MA) and 50% on-site support at AbbVie Cambridge Crossing (Cambridge, MA) as needed.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS/Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (typically 14/12/6 years related industry experience).
- Strong analytical chemistry background; independent method development/troubleshooting.
- Leadership solving technical challenges in lipid nanoparticle (LNP) and small-molecule spaces.
- Highly desired: mass spectrometry instrumentation for structure elucidation and trace quantitation.
- Working knowledge of HPLC/UPLC, GC, DSC, TGA, DVS, PXRD, NMR, dissolution.
- Familiarity with physicochemical properties in drug delivery/formulation; formulation routes (IV, SC, IP, PO) across species.
- Knowledge of preclinical/clinical formulation development principles for LNPs.
- Strong communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment.
