Position Summary
- The Pathologist (expertise in Oncology and/or Molecular Pathology) analyzes laboratory and clinical aspects of high-complexity tests to provide up-to-date, clinically relevant pathological diagnoses; interprets immunohistochemical (IHC) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) tests; selects tumor areas for molecular analyses; and explains clinical/pathological significance.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct pathologic examinations of submitted specimens.
- Evaluate specimen adequacy for testing; recommend actions when specimen is limited.
- Interpret IHC and ISH stains.
- Review batch and instrument quality control stains.
- Render comprehensive diagnoses to support clinician treatment decisions.
- Review tumor profiling elements and sign out reports.
- Consult with peer Pathologists as needed.
- Participate in Quality Assurance (case review and intradepartmental conferences).
- May train and supervise pathology assistants, residents, and fellows.
- Follow policies, quality improvement, and safety/standards.
- Improve relationships with clinicians and the pathology community.
- Assist with Pharma Services projects and other related duties.
Required Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. with AP or AP/CP Board certification (if >2 yearsβ experience) or Board eligibility.
- Licensure eligibility in Arizona and other states.
- Ability to provide high-level tumor profiling support; advance oncology science.
- Ability to learn internal diagnostic software.
- Knowledge/experience with diagnostic equipment (microscope, computer).
- Effective communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general internet use.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training in Molecular Pathology and/or other surgical pathology subspecialties (preferred, not required).
- Publications using IHC, ISH, or molecular genetic testing in cancer.
Other
- Full-time on-site in Phoenix, AZ; occasional weekend work.
