Responsibilities:
- Translate business strategies, goals, and objectives into clear requirements; document problem statements with quantifiable business value.
- Document “as is” and “to be” business processes; identify, verify, and document functional and non-functional requirements using standard methodologies and tools.
- Map information system connections and data flows; identify data elements and provide data mapping and data dictionaries.
- Write SQL statements to investigate data; understand data lake principles and different database types.
- Maintain and prioritize the backlog of requests; ensure the development team has clarity on requirements; manage business stakeholder expectations.
- Work with scientists and laboratory personnel to understand processes and suggest improvements; partner to define system goals and requirements.
- Pursue data quality issues to root cause; collaborate with business and IT partners.
- Handle varied tasks, solve problems with complex variables, and shift priorities in a fast-paced research environment.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a life science with experience in computer science or information technology.
- 5–8+ years of experience in a research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or scientific laboratory environment.
- Required: biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Preferred: experience with biological laboratory techniques, bioinformatics methods, relational database concepts, IT project and software development lifecycle methodologies, and managing/leading software development projects.
Required/Preferred Skills:
- Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), SQL databases, and data modeling frameworks.
- Business analysis; eliciting and documenting requirements; mapping data flows; driving data quality improvements.
- Strong verbal and written communication with technical and scientific personnel.
