Role: Principal Automation and Robotics Engineer responsible for defining and leading physical automation architecture for autonomous discovery platforms in biopharma research. Objectives include establishing scalable, modular, and safe robotics and control systems, supporting AI-native laboratory automation, and integrating multi-workcell SDL platforms. Responsibilities encompass designing reference architecture, setting enterprise standards, leading design reviews, and defining engineering governance. Collaborates with science, IT/OT, EHS, quality, vendors, and cross-site teams to ensure system support for scientific workflows and autonomous operations. Qualifications: Bachelor's in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Robotics, or related field; 10+ years (Bachelor's) or 8+ years (Master's), or 4+ (PhD) of automation, controls, or equipment integration experience. Deep expertise in robotic systems, controls hardware, sensors, safety, and laboratory environment considerations. Preferred: experience with self-driving labs, digital twins, AI-enabled automation, regulated pharma environments, and innovation recognition. Work setup: based in Spring House, PA, with travel as needed for vendor assessments, site visits, and deployment activities.
