Role Summary
The Drug Innovation group at Alnylam seeks a passionate, creative post-doctoral scientist to advance RNAi Platform and Lead Development through mechanistic/structural studies of RNAi. The successful candidate will have a strong background in oligonucleotide chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry, with hands-on experience in synthesis and chemical/biophysical characterization of oligonucleotides and their conjugates. This onsite role is based in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities
- Synthesize novel nucleosides and novel ligands for oligonucleotides for delivery.
- Synthesize oligonucleosides, purify oligonucleotides using various chromatography techniques, and perform biophysical and nuclease studies.
- Collaborate with all team members to synthesize novel oligonucleotides.
- Design and execute the automated synthesis, purification, and analysis of siRNAs with various chemistries and scales using state-of-the-art instrumentation platforms.
- Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on critical instrumentation such as automated synthesis platforms, HPLC, and liquid handling robots.
- Work closely with members across various sub-teams within RNAi discovery.
- Analyze, organize, and present data at internal meetings.
- Write experimental details following J. Org. Chem. format for patents and publications.
Qualifications
- Required: PhD in Chemistry or preferably in oligonucleotide chemistry, with 0–2 years post-degree experience in an industrial or academic setting.
- Required: Experience in conjugation/bioconjugation chemistry.
- Preferred: Solid-phase synthesis techniques with oligonucleotides or peptides.
- Required: Expertise in chromatography purification techniques and troubleshooting.
- Required: Strong laboratory skills and experience with analytical instrumentation such as NMR, HPLC, LC-MS, etc., with the ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly present data.
- Required: The ability to apply experience and knowledge to a new area of study as well as to thrive in a highly interdisciplinary team environment with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Required: High degree of flexibility and motivation in a fast-paced work environment.
