Role Summary
This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of donors and purity of product as a result of the plasma collection process. The phlebotomist monitors the donor throughout the collection process for equipment errors, donor reactions, or any unexpected events and takes appropriate actions when any event occurs. They interpret health history and vital signs in relation to company procedures and manage automated collection instruments, donor monitoring, and product samples to maintain product integrity.
Responsibilities
- Identifies donors in accordance with SOPs.
- Greets donors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Sets up and readies the collection device appropriately.
- Performs arm scrub to ensure donor safety and product purity.
- Verifies printed labels are clearly legible and correctly aligned.
- Labels collection bottles as defined in SOPs.
- Collects and labels required samples at the donor bedside.
- Inspects materials to confirm no breakage, kinks, contamination, or particles in anticoagulant or saline.
- Performs quality control of area equipment.
- Operates automated collection equipment in accordance with SOPs and manufacturer instructions.
Qualifications
- Required: Ability to understand and interpret government regulations and customer specifications.
- Required: Able to work in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- Required: Computer proficiency with intermediate skills in office programs.
- Experience Requirements: Physically arranges cases and samples in the freezer to maintain organization; performs quality control of equipment; maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information; assists with administrative duties; attends scheduled staff training and meetings; supports business needs as assigned; monitors donors for reactions; documents collection issues accurately; disconnects donors from equipment and ensures good physical condition prior to release; completes documentation for machine and donation software; reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Preferred Experience: Previous phlebotomy experience in a blood or plasma collection center; minimum 12 months in the health field or equivalent combination of experience and education.

- Strong documentation and accuracy in data recording.
