Role Summary
Phlebotomist responsible for ensuring donor safety and product purity during plasma collection, monitoring donors for equipment issues, reactions, or unexpected events, and handling samples and storage per procedures. Cross-training for plasma processing and donor screener functions is expected.
Responsibilities
- Identifies donors in accordance with SOPs.
- Greets donors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Sets up and readies the collection device appropriately.
- Performs arm scrub correctly to ensure donor safety and product purity.
- Verifies labels are clearly printed and properly aligned.
- Labels the collection bottle as defined in ADMA SOPs.
- Collects and labels required samples at the donor bedside.
- Inspects soft goods prior to use to confirm no breakage, kinks, contamination, or particles in anticoagulant or saline.
- Performs quality control of area equipment.
- Operates the automated collection equipment in accordance with ADMA SOPs and manufacturerβs instructions.
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and interpret government regulations and customer specifications.
- Able to work in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- Computer proficiency with intermediate skills in office programs.
Experience
- Physically arranges cases and samples in the freezer for organized retrieval.
- Performs quality control of equipment used in processing and packing areas.
- Obtains backup samples as required for the laboratory or customers.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Assists with administrative duties to support Donor Center initiatives.
- Attends scheduled staff training and meetings.
- Performs additional duties as needed by management.
- Monitors donors for signs of reaction before, during, and after plasmapheresis.
- Documents collection issues accurately in the center system or manually if required.
- Disconnects donor from automated collection equipment and ensures donor is in good condition prior to release.
- Completes all documentation requirements accurately for machine and donation software systems.
- Reports unsafe situations or conditions to supervisor.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience as a phlebotomist in a blood or plasma collection center preferred.
- Minimum of 12 months in the health field preferred or a combination of experience and education equivalent to this requirement.
Compliance Requirements
- Adheres to all cGMPs, ADMA SOPs and applicable regulations.
- Annual GMP training.
- Maintains an organized and clean work environment; clean up spills and splatters before moving to the next task.
- Ensures sufficient supplies are available.
- Disinfects the bed thoroughly between each donor.
- T eaches the donor to use the self-administered questionnaire and assists as needed.
- Performs donor arm checks.
- Determines donor vital signs and weight and records results in the donor center system.
- Determines donor suitability by reviewing responses to the questionnaire and confirming correct answers.
- Defers donors based on donor acceptance and deferral criteria.
- Explains deferrals and associated time frames to donors.
