Role Summary

This Phlebotomist position is responsible for ensuring the safety of donors and the purity of product during the plasma collection process. The role involves monitoring donors through the collection, identifying equipment issues or donor reactions, and taking appropriate actions. The phlebotomist interprets health history and vital signs against company criteria, prepares and operates automated collection equipment, safeguards product integrity, and supports donor center operations while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.

Responsibilities

  • Identify donors in accordance with SOPs.
  • Greet donors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Set up and ready the collection device; perform arm scrub for donor safety and product purity.
  • Verify labels for clarity and proper alignment; label collection bottles as defined in SOPs.
  • Collect and label required samples at the donor bedside.
  • Inspect soft goods to ensure no breakage or contamination; ensure anticoagulant or saline integrity.
  • Perform quality control of area equipment.
  • Operate automated collection equipment in accordance with SOPs and manufacturer instructions.
  • Monitor donors for reactions before, during, and after plasmapheresis; manage Level 1 reactions as needed.
  • Discharge products and ensure proper freezing and storage; stage units for shipment and samples for testing.
  • Maintain organization of samples and cases in freezer; interact professionally with donors and coworkers.
  • Cross-train and qualify for plasma processing and donor screener functions as part of role progression.

Qualifications

  • Required: Ability to understand and interpret government regulations and customer specifications; work effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment; computer proficiency with intermediate skills in office programs.
  • Experience: Physically arranges cases and samples in the freezer; performs quality control of equipment; maintains confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information; participates in administrative duties and trainings; monitors donors for reactions; documents collection issues accurately; ensures donor safety and proper release from equipment; completes all documentation as required.
  • Preferred: Previous experience as a phlebotomist in a blood or plasma collection center; minimum of 12 months in health field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
