Role Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of donors and purity of product as a result of the plasma collection process. The phlebotomist monitors the donor throughout the collection process for equipment errors, donor reactions, or any unexpected events, taking appropriate actions as needed. They interpret health history and vital signs against company criteria, manage automated collection instruments, monitor donors, disconnect donors, and ensure product integrity and proper storage and labeling of samples. The role requires professional, courteous interaction with donors and collaboration with coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies donors in accordance with SOPs.
  • Greets donors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Sets up and readies the collection device appropriately.
  • Performs arm scrub to ensure donor safety and product purity.
  • Verifies labels are clear, legible, and correctly aligned.
  • Labels collection bottles as defined in SOPs.
  • Collects and labels required samples at the donor bedside.
  • Inspects equipment and materials to confirm no breakage, kinks, contamination, or particles.
  • Performs quality control of area equipment.
  • Operates automated collection equipment per SOPs and manufacturer instructions.

Qualifications

  • Required: Ability to understand and interpret government regulations and customer specifications; ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment; computer proficiency with intermediate skills in office programs.
  • Preferred: Previous experience as a phlebotomist in a blood or plasma collection center; minimum of 12 months in the health field or equivalent combination of experience and education.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and labeling.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with donors and team members.
  • Ability to monitor donors for reactions before, during, and after plasmapheresis.
