The Position
Assumes responsibility for achieving sales goals by implementing marketing and sales strategies to effectively sell and promote Novo Nordisk’s portfolio to HCPs and other office staff.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates competencies with consistent, territory-level impact.
- Understands the local payer market (Medicare, Commercial, Medicaid), payer coverage, prescription coverage requirements, step therapy, coverage gap, copays, and deductibles, and how these impact customer decisions.
- Understands territory customer groups/affiliations (IPAs, medical groups, health systems, local clinics) to identify opportunities and tailor approach.
- Analyzes bidding policies/contracts to influence formulary status (as applicable).
- May analyze managed care impact and adjust sales/promotion strategies.
- Develops relationships with specialists and hospital decision-makers who influence purchasing/prescribing/formulary decisions.
- Researches and tailors account plans to stakeholders and account business practices.
- Develops and executes territory business plans based on market conditions, competitive trends, priorities, and patient needs.
- Gains and maintains access through customer relationship-building (prescribers, support staff, pharmacies, clinic administrators) to drive business impact and collaborate on clinical management using NNI-approved solutions.
- Uses the Novo Nordisk Edge Selling Model (pre-call planning, uncover needs, deliver solutions/messages, resolve objections, gain commitment with impact).
- Uses analytical tools to develop territory plans that align with payer opportunities and brand/sales objectives to meet sales goals.
- Communicates with internal stakeholders (Pod team, PDBM, RBD, etc.) to implement plans and define roles.
- Manages samples/company property and discretionary territory and promotional budgets.
- Demonstrates disease state knowledge and fair balance knowledge of NNI and competitor treatment options and clinical studies.
- Participates in and contributes to sales/marketing meetings, training, conventions, and displays.
Physical Requirements
- Valid driver’s license; must be in good standing (not exceeding assigned Novo Nordisk points threshold based on MVR).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and/or PharmD required.
- Preferred: 1+ year experience in pharmaceutical/healthcare, sales, consulting, customer service, or military.
- Intermediate computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel); sales data/call reporting software experience ideal.
- Self-starter; can evaluate options and make decisions with minimal supervision.
- Aptitude for leadership and decision-making.
- Solid understanding of diabetes/obesity therapy areas and ability to learn and communicate technical/scientific information.
