Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance and reporting of US/Puerto Rico payroll tax regulations across all 50 state jurisdictions.
- Oversee US and Puerto Rico payroll tax operations, including staying current on tax regulations and implementing required adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with US federal, state, and local tax laws in all 50 jurisdictions.
- Communicate regulatory changes and update systems/processes accordingly.
- Mentor and supervise a payroll tax team (minimum 3 years supervisory experience).
- Oversee audits; assist the Payroll Tax Lead with resolving compliance issues and monitoring penalties/notices.
- Collaborate with Payroll and Corporate Tax teams to ensure accurate/timely payroll tax liability processing.
- Review/approve monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of state withholding and unemployment taxes.
- Serve as primary contact for federal, state, and local payroll tax audits.
- Work with payroll system providers (e.g., ADP, Workday) to ensure correct tax setups, updates, and reporting.
- Monitor tax filings for accuracy and deadlines; manage amendments/corrections.
- Lead business analytics/AI tools to monitor performance, compliance, and payroll tax metrics.
- Provide guidance on complex payroll tax issues, including equity taxation.
- Identify enterprise risks and negotiate with internal/external auditors.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of US and Puerto Rico payroll tax experience.
- CPA or CPP required.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws (including IRS guidelines).
- Experience in a large, complex organization (10,000+ employees; multiple entities).
- Proven ability to lead/supervise tax specialists for 4β6 years.
- Experience with Workday Payroll and ADP (or similar third-party integrations).
- Strong communication in English and Spanish; ability to work independently and collaborate across stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and process diagnostic skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
