Position Summary
The Payroll Compliance Specialist is part of the payroll team and assists with payroll operations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax regulations, and company policies. Supports payroll audits, maintains compliance documentation, monitors regulatory changes, and partners with HR, Finance, Benefits, Legal, and Payroll to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

Responsibilities
- Complete payroll processing activities to ensure compliance with applicable payroll laws and regulations, including reporting
- Review payroll transactions for accuracy (earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, garnishments)
- Maintain payroll records and ensure documentation meets company policies and record retention requirements
- Participate in payroll audits and compliance reviews by preparing reports and supporting records
- Monitor and research payroll regulations; implement changes for multi-state requirements, new legislation, or policy updates
- Conduct payroll tax reconciliations and support quarterly and annual tax reporting
- Monitor payroll inbox; investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and tax notices
- Partner with HR, Finance, Benefits, and external payroll vendors to resolve compliance issues
- Support payroll system testing, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives; update and maintain documentation

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, Business Administration, or related field with 5+ years payroll compliance/HR/accounting experience (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of payroll regulations, payroll tax requirements, and wage and hour laws
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally and discreetly
