Main Responsibilities
- Act as a global officer and expert on data privacy; promote and maintain a culture of privacy across the patient data lifecycle using a patient-centric, TRT (Thoughtful Risk Taking) approach.
- Serve as business partner for R&D and/or Medical departments with end-to-end accountability for privacy activities (privacy-by-Design for new projects; monitoring/reporting risk management strategies to senior R&D leaders).
- As SME for patient data, drive transversal privacy initiatives for responsible use of patient data, informed by patient perspectives, ethical/regulatory standards, and cross-functional alignment.
- Monitor privacy risks in your area.
- Partner with local Privacy Officers and Legal teams to ensure supported Global Patient initiatives comply with local practices and regulations and provide local resolutions.
- Co-author internal position papers with Legal, R&D, and Government Affairs; represent Sanofi in industry advocacy with trade associations, patient groups, and data protection regulators.
- Oversee patient rights requests, ensuring rights are upheld per regulatory requirements and Sanofi privacy commitments.
- Drive closure of action plans from regulatory inspections and internal audits.
Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school (or equivalent advanced degree in law) and a valid US license to practice law.
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience, including significant data privacy experience.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. state and federal privacy laws/regulations (CCPA, HIPAA); familiarity with AI regulations and ethical frameworks.
- Preferred: CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of the R&D journey of a new drug (candidate to product registration and safety) in GCP-regulated environments.
- Demonstrated application of privacy principles in R&D (patient programs experience a plus).
- Proven crisis leadership and stakeholder alignment; strong communication.
- Advanced external advocacy skills with regulators and industry peers.
- Ability to translate regulatory/societal/technological changes into proactive patient privacy risk mitigations and opportunity strategies.
