Patent Counsel/ Patent Agent, Innovation Law

Role: Patent Counsel or Patent Agent supporting Bristol Myers Squibb's innovation portfolio, primarily focusing on patent preparation, prosecution, and strategic IP counsel within the pharmaceutical/biotech sector. Responsibilities: draft and manage patent applications globally, conduct freedom-to-operate and patent landscape analyses, provide legal and strategic guidance on patentability and infringement, and support business development including IP due diligence and licensing negotiations. Collaborate closely with internal R&D teams and external counsel to optimize patent strategies and ensure compliance. Requirements: 7-10 years of patent law experience in pharma/biotech; registered to practice before the USPTO; Bachelor's in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences; JD preferred. Additional scientific or research background advantageous. Skills: strong analytical, communication, and legal judgment; ability to manage complex patent portfolios and advise on business-critical IP matters. High-Value: experience in pharmaceutical/biotech patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate assessments, and patent strategy development; knowledge of biotech modalities and therapeutics is desirable.
