Role Summary
Perrigo Nutritionals is seeking a highly motivated Packaging Mechanic to operate on the Days Shift (6am - 6pm ET) on a biweekly 2/2/3 schedule. The role focuses on maintenance and troubleshooting of packaging and manufacturing process equipment, ensuring a clean, safe, and compliant environment. The position is full-time, non-exempt, and requires a proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting the mechanical aspects of packaging and manufacturing process equipment and piping systems in compliance with standard operating procedures and ensuring such machinery operates in a clean organized environment.
- Performs machine rebuilding, repair and troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and moving equipment, including packaging equipment, sanitary valves and actuators, sanitary pumps, gear and belt driven assemblies and conveyors, and belt/chain tension and alignment.
- Performs general building maintenance for facility grounds, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
- Creates and completes general work orders, documenting clearly; interfaces with other mechanics and technicians across shifts in a team environment.
- Continuously seeks and helps implement process improvements related to safety, quality, and productivity; performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Maintains 5S in workspace and Maintenance Shop; participates in training and development activities; other duties throughout the plant as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; two+ years of solid maintenance experience in an industrial setting; ability to use hand and power tools for general maintenance; ability to read and utilize repair/rebuild manuals and drawings; proficiency with Microsoft Suite and CMMS (e.g., SAP) usage; knowledge of utility systems (steam, water, gas) and their role in industrial manufacturing; strong reading/writing/comprehension of English for safety procedures and SOPs; ability to meet local training requirements.
- Preferred: Mechanic certification in complex industrial or automotive repair/rebuild procedures; welding and/or machinist certifications; experience operating lathe, mill, and fabrication equipment.
Education
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
- Works from ladders and man lifts; able to continuously lift 20 pounds and up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Stand on concrete floors for extended periods; ability to stoop, squat, bend; work in confined spaces and high areas; sustained reach above shoulder height.
- Frequent grasping of objects and small tools; adequate visual and auditory acuity for safe operation; must wear appropriate personal protective equipment; respirator use may be required; must be medically cleared to wear respirators and be able to seal tight-fitting respirator; compliance with safety, environmental, and health practices.
