Role Summary

The Oncology Diagnostic Liaison has a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact in patient lives. Under general direction of the Pfizer Oncology Commercial Diagnostics Leader, he/she will plan and execute all aspects of the organization’s Pathology / Diagnostic Market and Access strategy. This position will have a great deal of autonomy and the candidate must be self-driven to deliver results. The primary responsibility for this role will be to liaise with pathology groups, diagnostic groups, and key stakeholders of reference laboratories to build a core diagnostic foundation for our current and future pipeline products. The Oncology Diagnostic Liaison will report to the Commercial Diagnostics Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general direction of the Pfizer Oncology Commercial Diagnostics Leader, plan and execute all aspects of the organization’s Pathology / Diagnostic Market and Access strategy for the assigned region.
  • Develop key messaging and education tactics within the assigned region to positively impact pathology targets.
  • Be the primary liaison with regional pathology groups, diagnostic groups and key stakeholders of reference laboratories and key institutional accounts to build and maintain a core diagnostic foundation for current and future pipeline products.
  • Educate pathologists on new therapy driven emerging biomarkers of interest and utility of said biomarkers (pre and post approval)
  • Proactively and independently establish laboratory relationships and connections within the regional pathology and oncologist community to increase understanding of ordering the right test, at the right time, with the right key protocols in place for better patient identification and diagnosis.
  • Attend diagnostic advisory boards and pathology related congresses as needed to network, influence, and generally increase awareness and understanding of diagnostic testing in relation to the therapeutic products offered by Pfizer Oncology.
  • Actively monitor the latest developments within the therapeutic area and be able to effectively discuss all aspects of the patient biopsy, tissue journey, and the technical challenges along the tumor and patient diagnosis.

Qualifications

  • Required: 5+ years of industry experience
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree
  • Required: Experience working with and training pathologists on new emerging data and information concerning accurate IHC testing and reporting
  • Required: Deep laboratory experience or understanding of the flow of work within an academic / community institution, as well as national/regional reference labs
  • Required: Ability to develop and execute a territory/regional plan of action to impact pathology targets and drive education with key messaging within assigned territory/region
  • Required: Experience presenting and articulating educational and complex information to key stakeholders / decision makers, including pathologists, oncologists, lab techs, c-suite executives
  • Required: Passion for making a difference for oncology patients
  • Required: Creative thinking, ability to convert ideas into action, and sense of urgency
  • Required: Effective communication, both orally and in writing
  • Required: Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external customers

  • Required: This is a field-based position and frequent travel is required
  • Preferred: Oncology experience with in-depth knowledge of diagnostics in Lung, GI, GU, and Hematology
  • Preferred: Understanding of hospital EMR work flows and Laboratory LIS
  • Preferred: Understanding of testing methodologies with IHC, FLOW, FISH, PCR, and NGS
  • Preferred: Pharmaceutical experience in oncology
  • Preferred: Scientific Advanced Degree
