Purpose
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert that strategically supports the research and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle. MSLs serve as primary communicators of AbbVie science within a specific geography with healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Supports research initiatives across development at the request of R&D (e.g., site evaluation/identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, external collaboration management).
- Identifies, gains access to, and develops professional relationships with external experts (EEs) in assigned geography.
- Routinely communicates field insights to internal business partners; provides education on disease state and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle.
- Continually educates self on market issues/trends and product knowledge related to assigned responsibilities.
- Works with in-field teams to develop and execute a territory plan; inputs and maintains internal database for HCP interactions.
- Marketplace preparation in new therapeutic areas of interest (awareness and relationship building in the medical community).
- Serves as a scientific resource to commercial partners (e.g., Medical Congress staffing, Advisory Boards, training initiatives).
- Uses resources efficiently and responsibly, including financial decisions.
- Provides and supports clinical information needs within assigned geography; supports MSL team and corporate needs by meeting targeted goals, executing territory business/tactical plans, meeting deadlines, and achieving annual functional goals.
- Ensures compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree required (e.g., PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA, NP, BSN) in a relevant scientific discipline; doctorate strongly preferred. Significant industry experience in relevant therapeutic area may substitute for education.
- 2+ years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry-related experience (or equivalent).
- Lung Solid Tumor experience preferred.
- Prior pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytic skills.
- Willing to travel up to 75%.
- Ability to meet HCIR credentialing requirements for facility access (may include background checks, drug screens, immunization/vaccination proof).
- Must live in the territory or be willing to self-relocate within the territory (majority includes Florida).
- Job grade/title determined by credentials, education, and experience.
