Mixed Modality (Peptide Upstream) Scientist - Process Translation and Execution

Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and facilitate transfer of peptide upstream manufacturing processes (SPPS; cleavage & precipitation) from development labs to pilot plant (kilo-scale and isolator environments) for early-phase cGMP API manufacturing (grams to kilograms).
- Perform synthetic peptide chemistry and assess synthetic routes from early-phase R&D.
- Stage/order chemicals; obtain reference materials; participate in setting up analytical methods.
- Reprocess/analyze analytical data; summarize and present chemistry challenges.
- Execute plant-familiarization steps to ensure readiness; perform use-tests on key raw materials.
- Maintain detailed lab notebooks for accurate technical packages/transfers.
- Author/review technical documents (tech transfer plan, SOPs, batch records, campaign summaries, deviation reports).
- Drive process improvement; support troubleshooting/investigations, including RCA and CAPAs.
Basic Requirements:
- B.S. or M.S. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years peptide chemistry and/or manufacturing experience with synthetic peptide API/drug substance; SPPS preferred.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time; Lilly does not sponsor visas.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
- Experience optimizing peptide reactions; synthetic chemistry and process chemistry concepts.
- Experience with peptide crude synthesis (SPPS; cleavage/deprotection); larger glass equipment.
- Batch records, scale-up experiments, ambiguity management, strong attention to detail.
- Analytical skills (HPLC/UPLC, LC-MS, GC, NMR) and mass balance; project drive/change acceptance.
- Familiarity with peptide downstream (TFF, lyophilization, precipitation, safe solids handling); problem-solving/root cause analysis; cross-functional collaboration.
Other Information:
- Location: Indianapolis/Carmel, IN (initial); Lebanon, IN (permanent).
- Limited travel (<5%); manufacturing/lab environment required.
Compensation & Benefits (as stated):
- Anticipated wage: $66,000–$171,600; eligible for company bonus and comprehensive benefits (e.g., 401(k), medical/dental/vision, life insurance, time off, well-being).
