Role Summary

Metrology/ Calibration Technician role focused on calibration and repair of precision measuring and test equipment (MTE/TMDE) in a standards laboratory and/or on-site field environment. Applies engineering or technical experience to ensure instruments function properly and verify performance against specifications; performs verification, adjustments, troubleshooting, and repair in collaboration with Metrology Engineers and equipment owners.

Responsibilities

  • Calibration and metrology across multiple disciplines including pressure & vacuum, temperature & humidity, electrical calibration, flow, and dimensional measurements.
  • Verify performance against established specifications (accuracy, precision, etc.) and perform adjustments, troubleshooting, and repairs of instruments and interfaces.
  • Apply metrology techniques and theory to laboratory practices (linearity, hysteresis, bias, etc.) and utilize mathematical concepts and unit conversions between metric and Imperial units.
  • Exercise independent judgment in problem solving, troubleshooting, analyzing circuits, and interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Coordinate with Metrology Engineers and equipment owners regarding calibration requirements, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Maintain workload efficiency in a fast-paced, team environment while adhering to cGMP in an FDA-regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; minimum 4 years’ experience as a Senior Instrument Technician or equivalent; Associate’s Degree in electronics technology or equivalent strongly desired; ASQ CCT certification a plus.
  • Experience with analytical instruments is a plus (e.g., balances, HPLC, GC, MS, UV-Vis).
  • Ability to manage activities to meet tight timelines; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Skills

  • Calibration and metrology principles across multiple measurement disciplines
  • Problem solving, troubleshooting, circuit analysis, and interpretation of wiring diagrams
  • Familiarity with PMEL standards, ISO 17025, ANSI Z540.1 & Z540.3, ISO 9001, NCSL practices, measurement uncertainty concepts (GUM), TUR/TAR, Gauge R&R, MSA

Education

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate degree in electronics technology or equivalent strongly desired.
