Role Summary
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based member of the US Medical Affairs organization who develops and enhances relationships with medical thought leaders involved in product development. The role provides medical information through scientific exchange and clinical/scientific support for Jazz Pharmaceuticals and Medical Affairs. This field-based position covers Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers within the Epilepsy therapeutic area
- Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with US Medical Affairs plans
- Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments
- Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals (HCPs) through on-site presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings
- Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives; position self as Scientific Expert
- Maintain up-to-date high-level knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, emerging research, therapeutic issues, trends, and competitive landscape
- Establish reputation as a trustworthy and knowledgeable source of scientific and medical information
- Support development of Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ positioning as the scientific authority in Epilepsy; attend scientific congresses to stay abreast of developments and support KOL activities
- Understand local and national protocols and standards of clinical practice and trends in disease management in the US
- Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings
- Communicate emerging data and clinical experience with products through scientific exchange and peer-to-peer interactions
- Contribute to Medical Affairs Planning and Plan Execution; develop the US Medical Plan and provide input into local strategies and tactics
- Manage relevant budget to enable execution of Medical Plan tactics as part of the wider Medical Affairs team
- Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to support a Key Account Management approach
- Interact with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan including advisory boards, speaker development, and clinical trials
- Maintain Company standards and Jazz Values; enhance Jazz’s image as a medical advancement advocate through scientific exchange
- Document and forward reports of adverse events and product complaints in accordance with Jazz policy
- Adhere to relevant national and local Codes of Practice; behave ethically and with integrity; act as an ambassador for Jazz
- Maintain a personal development plan and implement it; prepare timely reporting as needed
Qualifications
- Required: Ability to research, analyze, and communicate complex scientific and medical information; clear and concise communication and presentation skills; excellent planning and organizational skills; strong strategic mindset; self-motivated and autonomous; ability to learn quickly and remain flexible in a dynamic environment; excellent negotiation skills; strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities; proficiency with digital platforms and tools; excellent command of spoken English; travel willingness of 60% of work days; driving required
- Preferred: Knowledge of geography, healthcare environment and external experts in academia; ability to develop trust with opinion leaders; understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel
- Required/Preferred Education And Licenses: MS/Advanced Practice Degree in a scientific/medical field with a minimum of 5 years in Epilepsy or MD, PharmD, or PhD; experience as an MSL strongly preferred; Epilepsy experience strongly preferred; Neurology experience required; field position with 60–80% travel; valid driver’s license and residence within 60 miles of a major airport

Education
- MS/Advanced Practice Degree in scientific and/or medical discipline with a minimum of 5 years experience in Epilepsy or MD, PharmD, or PhD
- Experience as a Medical Science Liaison is strongly preferred; Epilepsy and Neurology experience preferred/required as noted

- Travel: This is a field position with 60–80% travel required; valid driver's license and ability to reside within 60 miles of a major airport
