Role Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based role located in MO, KS, AR, NE. The MSL identifies disease and product-related medical needs in a defined geography, develops and maintains relationships with Thought Leaders and Healthcare Providers, and engages in meaningful scientific exchange to enhance education, data generation, insight generation and patient access to medicines. The MSL also serves as the medical resource for external stakeholders in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic and community research thought leaders, appropriate HCPs, and access stakeholders within a given geography to answer scientific, unsolicited product, and HEOR related questions. Use various channels for interactions (1:1, group presentations, remote, etc.).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using available scientific resources and presentations; effectively present information to TL/HCPs and respond to questions with medical accuracy and in compliance with local procedures and ethical/legal guidelines.
  • Actively assess the medical landscape by meeting with TL/HCPs/Access Stakeholders to understand their needs and expertise; continuously update knowledge on treatment strategies, products, unmet medical needs, clinical trials, HEOR and scientific activities; understand the competitive landscape and evolving healthcare models and address informational needs of customers.
  • Identify opportunities to partner with HCPs on disease-state initiatives, collaborative research projects, and investigator-sponsored research (ISR) aligned with BMS objectives.
  • Attend medical congresses and local/regional meetings; collect and provide meaningful medical insights to the medical and commercial organizations to support strategy development and business decisions.
  • Contribute to the Medical Plan by developing geography-specific Field Medical and TL Interaction plans based on therapeutic area objectives and TL needs; adopt institution/account planning approaches and contribute to cross-functional plans; contribute to development and delivery of scientifically meaningful medical programs/projects in line with the local Medical and Field Medical plan.
  • Provide Medical Support by establishing a customer-centric, compliant collaboration with cross-matrix field teams within the assigned geography; support medical/scientific training and provide key updates to internal stakeholders; provide scientific support at promotional meetings and participate in Congress activities.
  • Support Clinical Trial Activities by assisting Interventional and Non-Interventional Research (NIR) studies, providing site feasibility insights, supporting ISR submission and execution, ensuring Pharmacovigilance requirements are understood by investigators, and actively supporting CRO-sponsored studies as defined by the study scope.

Qualifications

  • Required Experience: MD, PharmD, PhD, APP, PA, NP with experience in Neuroscience or a broad medical background and relevant pharmaceutical experience.
  • Knowledge Desired: disease area knowledge and understanding of scientific publications; knowledge of a scientific/clinical area, competitive landscape and patient treatment trends; knowledge of clinical trial design and process; knowledge of the national healthcare and access environment; knowledge of HEOR core concepts; excellent English language skills, spoken and written.
  • Experience Desired: a minimum of 2 years working in a clinical and/or pharmaceutical environment; prior MSL experience; ability to work independently and as a team; translating scientific/clinical data into an understandable and valuable form to help physicians best serve their patients; good communication and presentation skills; ability to develop peer-to-peer relationships with TLs, scientists and other healthcare professionals; ability to quickly and comprehensively learn about new subject areas; demonstration of BMS values.
  • Essential Qualification: ability to drive a company-provided car; must be able to drive a BMS-provided vehicle between locations; high ethics, integrity, and a safe driving history.
  • Travel Requirement: Travel is required. Field-based; MSL will live in the territory or within 50 miles of the territory borders; the majority of time will be spent in the field with external customers, with additional requirements based on territory and team needs.
