Role Summary
The Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs, Lupus serves as a strategic physician leader responsible for shaping and executing the global medical strategy for Biogenโs lupus asset. This role provides deep clinical and scientific expertise, bridging insights from rheumatology with patient and healthcare community needs. The Medical Director collaborates with internal stakeholders and external collaborators to deliver high-impact, evidence-based initiatives that support advancement and differentiation of Biogenโs lupus portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of integrated global medical plans that drive asset strategy and scientific excellence in lupus.
- Provide medical and scientific input to shape clinical, evidence generation, and launch readiness activities.
- Interpret and communicate complex clinical data to internal and external stakeholders with scientific precision and clarity.
- Contribute to data generation efforts, including registrational, post-approval, and investigator-initiated studies.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and scientific integrity.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with external experts, professional societies, and advocacy groups.
- Provide clinical leadership during congress planning, advisory boards, and educational activities.
- Collaborate across functions and with external partners to ensure scientific consistency and alignment across medical deliverables.
Qualifications
- Required: MD or MD/PhD with specialization in Rheumatology (Board-certified).
- Required: Current licensure to practice medicine in the United States.
- Required: Minimum 8 years combined experience in clinical practice and/or biopharmaceutical industry (Maximum 3 years of experience in practice counts toward total).
- Required: Deep clinical knowledge of lupus, autoimmune disease mechanisms, and immunology.
- Required: Demonstrated ability to engage with external experts, interpret data, and communicate scientific evidence effectively.
- Required: Prior experience working in a collaborative or co-development setting is a strong plus.
- Required: Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills with a global mindset.
- Preferred: Prior experience contributing to medical strategy or launch preparation for autoimmune or immunology assets.
- Preferred: Understanding of clinical endpoints, disease activity measures, and patient-reported outcomes in lupus.
- Preferred: Ability to navigate complex, matrixed environments and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
