Role Summary

Marketing Manager II, Oncology - Capabilities & Operations, Congress Team leads end-to-end planning, execution, and optimization of high-value oncology/market access congresses within the healthcare/life sciences vertical. The role requires cross-functional collaboration to develop congress strategy, manage budgets, and ensure pre-, peri-, and post-congress activities align with business goals and maximize ROI. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence in Mettawa, IL on Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Responsibilities

  • Own a portfolio of high value community oncology/market access congresses, leading the end-to-end process from initial brief through post-show analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Community Oncology/Market Access Team to develop congress strategy, clarify goals, and ensure pre, peri, and post congress promotion, booth design, and onsite initiatives align with business goals and ROI.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for High Value Community Oncology/Market Access Congresses.
  • Conduct post-congress analysis and optimization: close out congresses with surveys, data analysis, stakeholder reporting; gather feedback and review budgets to inform future strategy and demonstrate business impact.
  • Exercise strategic thinking to identify trends, recommend improvements, and shape the evolution of the congress program.
  • Maintain end-to-end project management trackers to ensure milestones are met.
  • Manage project budgets and process purchase orders as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (AbbVie Business Services Group, Digital Lab, Office of Ethics and Compliance, Legal, Regulatory, etc.; external partners) to support congress activities.
  • Lead the branded/non-branded asset promotional approval process (Veeva) and ensure firewall compliance.
  • Coordinate with creative, CRM, content, and social media teams to align messaging, collateral, and release dates; serve as liaison across business development, leadership, and marketing.

Event Management

  • Initiate, execute, and strategically manage multiple projects with timely reporting of team activities and project management for High Value Pre-Congress Engagements (ASCO & ASH).
  • Manage event collateral: coordinate creation, proofs, invitations, emails, registration materials, badges, printed collateral, and event kits to meet rollout dates.
  • Manage ancillary programs: secure venues, meeting space, onsite schedules; build elevated experiences to drive measurable outcomes and pipeline acceleration; attend events as needed to ensure expectations are met and coordinate with partners.
  • Develop and implement SOPs for high value pre-congress engagements.
  • Maintain project trackers for coordination of milestones.
  • Lead the branded/non-branded asset promotional approval process and ensure firewall compliance.

Vendor Management

  • Design & build exhibits: partner with Congress Agency of Record (AOR) and exhibit vendors to create impactful booths; manage AV, booth design/fabrication, graphics, hospitality, shipping, and show services; bring booth-build experience from concept to I&D.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; minimum of 5 years of congress/events/meeting planning experience.
  • Certified Meeting Planner (CMP), Certified Trade Show Marketer (CTSM), Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP), Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM), or Digital Event Strategist (DES), or similar training in congress and sponsorship management.
  • Knowledge of oncology therapeutic area and commercial operations.
  • Experience with Veeva Promo mats (Medical/Promo/Regulatory) routing.
  • Strong budget management and project management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and facilitate collaboration to achieve results.
  • Ability to lead without authority and organize information to gain stakeholder buy-in.
  • High degree of autonomy in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a track record of managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to motivate and influence others without direct management authority; strong diplomacy and facilitation skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assess risks/benefits and make timely decisions with varying information; accountable for meeting objectives.

Travel

  • Yes, up to 30% of the time; includes weekend travel based on congress dates.
