Responsibilities:
- Own the monthly accrual process for an assigned portfolio of clinical trials; translate tracked study activity into accurate, well-supported accruals.
- Develop and maintain clinical trial forecasts and budgets incorporating enrollment rates, site activations, protocol amendments, vendor activity, and other study pivots.
- Analyze clinical trial expense variances vs. operational metrics; determine temporary vs. structural changes; provide variance commentary and study-level financial summaries.
- Partner with Clinical Operations and Development leaders to understand operational pivots and proactively flag near-/long-term financial implications.
- Manage purchase orders, contract reconciliation, and vendor invoice issue resolution; partner with Controllership and Procurement for accurate spend tracking and coding.
- Act as preparer for month-end close: accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Perform flux/variance analysis and answer accounting questions on actuals in accordance with US GAAP and internal policies; track PO and expenses for complete spend capture.
- Support audits and external reporting with documentation, analysis, and commentary.
- Prepare monthly internal reporting/analysis and provide inputs into budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Build models, metrics, templates, and internal benchmarks; prepare senior leadership materials highlighting expense trends, risks, and study dynamics.
- Serve as primary R&D finance business partner and single point of contact for owned functions; support additional R&D areas as needed.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related; CPA and/or MBA a plus.
- 5–8+ years progressive finance/accounting experience supporting R&D in life sciences/biotech (or equivalent).
- 3+ years in clinical trial finance, clinical accounting, or clinical business operations with hands-on clinical trial accruals and forecasting (strongly preferred).

Skills/Knowledge (required/preferred):
- Expertise in clinical trial accruals, forecasting, and financial analysis; working knowledge of drug development (start-up, site management, data management, safety, biometrics).
- US GAAP/R&D accounting knowledge; ability to report under GAAP and cash methodologies.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling.
- Public company experience; SOX controls/close documentation familiarity.
- Strong business partnering/communication across Finance, Clinical Operations, Development, and vendors.
- Experience with budgeting/reporting/planning systems (e.g., Vena); preferred ERP experience (e.g., NetSuite).
- Automation/AI-enabled process improvement experience.
