About The Role
Manager, Payroll and Operations—responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant payroll delivery for US and Canada, with oversight of EU and India. Provides end-to-end payroll operations governance, partners with HR/Finance/Legal on compensation/benefits/equity/employment changes, and drives continuous improvement of payroll policies, systems, and processes.
Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end payroll operations for US/Canada; oversee EU/India payroll processes.
- Maintain and improve payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls (incl. timekeeping).
- Manage payroll calculations/execution (earnings, deductions, labor distribution, overtime, PTO accruals, withholding elections).
- Lead two site-based payroll team members (dotted line).
- Ensure compliance with federal/state/local payroll tax rules, reporting, and employer contributions.
- Lead payroll tax filings, reconciliations, audits, and tax authority inquiries.
- Ensure SOX compliance, audit readiness, and data integrity.
- Produce accurate payroll reporting/reconciliations and partner on funding/variance analysis.
- Resolve complex payroll issues; escalate critical matters.
- Ensure accurate payroll data maintenance in HRIS/payroll systems.
- Partner with HR/Total Rewards/Finance/Legal; manage vendor relationships and payroll system enhancements/upgrades.
- Align payroll processes with Oracle/system capabilities.

Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting/Finance/Business/HR, etc.).
- 8+ years in payroll/HR operations (or related) in pharma/biotech/life sciences with leadership responsibility.
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP WorkforceNow, Deel) and HRIS (e.g., Oracle Fusion HCM) plus analytics tools.
- Deep understanding of multi-state tax compliance audits (e.g., SOX, 401k) and process ownership.
