Role Summary

This role is a key member of the financial planning and analysis team, acting as the financial business partner to the R&D, Medical Affairs, and Technical Development, Operations and Quality organizations. Responsible for generating meaningful reporting and analytics, and communicating findings to drive strong financial decision making. Key areas include maintaining the clinical trial cost forecast, periodic reporting, recurring planning processes, and partnering with functional teams with proficiency in corporate financial systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own the clinical trial cost forecasts for all ongoing and planned studies, working closely with the clinical operations team and understanding activity-based cost drivers
  • Support clinical outsourcing and strategic sourcing teams to highlight vendor risks and opportunities and participate in CRO selection and governance meetings
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver standard expense and headcount reporting and variance analysis to functional partners and Finance leadership, driving forecasting and reporting improvements
  • Coordinate and consolidate R&D, Medical Affairs, and TD&O expense forecasts for rolling forecasts, annual operating plans, long-range planning, etc.
  • Develop business case models to support asset investment decisions for internal and external pipeline opportunities
  • Act as integrated business partner with R&D, Medical Affairs, and TD&O, providing analysis for initiatives (go/no go decisions, scenario analysis, payback periods, project post mortems, regulatory reporting)
  • Collaborate with Accounting to ensure GAAP compliance and reasonableness of accruals; understand corporate financial systems to perform planning and analysis

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics. MBA preferred. Targeting 5+ years of experience in a financial planning and analysis role, business partnering, or related finance area; healthcare experience is ideal. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preferred: MBA or advanced degree; experience working closely with clinical organizations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills, and MS Office proficiency
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Advanced knowledge of financial reporting, forecasting, and planning applications (NetSuite preferred)

Education

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics. MBA preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel/onsite requirements: Must commute to the local office at a frequency of 60% of working days
  • Physical requirements: Standard office environment; occasional lifting up to 15 pounds
