Role Summary

The Manager, EHS is an integral part of the Environmental Health & Safety team based out of the Willow Island, WV site. The Manager ensures compliance with all Federal, State and local Environmental, Health and Safety regulations for the Willow Island site, develops and nurtures a safety and environmental culture, and provides leadership through policies and services to protect the health and safety of colleagues, site operations, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and supervises the EHS program for the assigned Phibro facility.
  • Provides engineering support for construction, operations, laboratory and maintenance activities; evaluates equipment; oversees contractors; identifies solution technologies for compliance with air, water, and waste requirements.
  • Serves as technical Advisor to Management on all EHS aspects of manufacture, storage, delivery, and use of chemical materials.
  • Establishes and administers hazard evaluation activities and, where applicable, Process Safety Management (PSM); documents processes and tracks hazard evaluation recommendations; leads hazard reviews for new capital projects; conducts self-assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Designs and implements a Mechanical Integrity program for fire/explosion control and PSM; facilitates dust explosion hazards testing; trains colleagues on hazards and controls.
  • Develops site environmental, health and safety policies and procedures in line with Phibro procedures; provides technical supervision for EHS compliance in new facilities, equipment, or major modifications.
  • Oversees contractor safety performance, and manages emergency team development and readiness; maintains spill response, evacuation plans, and loss prevention programs; conducts training.
  • Ensures operations conform to regulations and corporate EHS procedures; develops and implements EHS management systems to advance beyond regulatory compliance.
  • Designs and maintains EHS programs to meet site needs; supervises timely submission of EHS reports; prepares for corporate EHS assessments; coordinates inspection reporting and remediation of findings.
  • Coordinates IH surveys; investigates injuries and losses to identify root causes and preventive measures.

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or other Engineering/Science; MS preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in EHS program management in industrial settings; 5 years in PSM management processes.
  • CIH, CSP or similar certification preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in industrial hygiene, safety engineering, OSHA VPP certification, toxicology, environmental and occupational health.
  • Strong leadership, analysis, judgment, and communication skills; ability to interact with agencies and all levels of Phibro.
  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills; strong problem solving and flexibility; strong written/oral communication.
  • Ability to analyze cross-functional impacts of decisions; self-directed and team-oriented; proficient with computers and training modules.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to access all areas of the manufacturing facility; ability to walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 55 pounds.
  • Able to travel to other sites within the U.S. network as needed.
