Manager, Category Management - Excipients & Media

Role Summary

Leads category sourcing initiative teams across local, domestic, and international purchasing organizations. Responsible for establishing, articulating, and implementing sourcing strategies for spend categories, capital projects, supplier networks, or geographic regions; manages project plans and resources to ensure end results meet stakeholder requirements. This hybrid role requires relationship building, analytical thinking, and continuous improvement, with on-site and remote work in the Worcester suburbs.

Responsibilities

• Conceive, initiate, develop, communicate, and manage the execution of purchasing strategies representing a minimum of $50 million of annual expenditures.
• Deliver cross-divisional sourcing projects that yield savings, process improvements, sustainable long-term agreements, and risk-mitigating supply strategies; set and track targets and drive high performance.
• Execute negotiations effectively and convert negotiated deals into legally sound, performance-based contracts for ongoing supplier management.
• Communicate with management and stakeholder groups to achieve objectives; foster productive relationships and knowledge exchange.
• Establish and maintain open, honest relationships with colleagues and stakeholders; tailor communications to needs and provide clear feedback and proposals.
• Resolve conflicts constructively; analyze root causes, collaborate on solutions, and promote sustainable change across the organization.
• Gather and analyze spend and market data to support fact-based decisions; establish spend baselines for sourcing processes.
• Ensure timely execution of the sourcing process from scope development to implementation; identify new sourcing opportunities and define project scope and stakeholders.
• Set standards for purchasing, designate approved suppliers, and develop and manage sourcing strategies and initiatives; secure senior-level authorization as needed.
• Ensure compliance with AbbVie policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry/Biology, or a related field; CPM is desired.
• Required: 6 years of total combined work experience; demonstrated expertise in Sourcing Authority, Project Management, Negotiation, Supply Chain Management, Cost and Financial Analysis, Regulatory and Compliance issues, Contracting, and cross-functional collaboration; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Required: Ability to lead teams through the sourcing process, maintain focus on fact-based conclusions, and manage projects with critical milestone dates to maximize savings.

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry/Biology or equivalent)
