Role Description
This position provides animal research technician support in a Pharmaceutical research environment. Primary species: companion animals (canine/feline), but may include other species (rodent/poultry/bovine/swine/equine).

Responsibilities (may include):
- Inventory control; medical case management
- Colony diet and weight management
- Colony preventive health management, scheduling, and administration
- Daily detailed observations and recording in electronic medical records or as raw study data
- Attend Veterinary Service meetings and participate in clinical rounds
- Work on miscellaneous projects; complete regulatory paperwork as needed
- Dental and surgical procedures: pre-op preparation, perioperative/post-operative care and monitoring
- Anesthesia monitoring
- Train animal care technicians for companion animal observations, husbandry, and procedures
- Technical procedures including: blood draws, urine collection, TPR and triage exam, IV catheterization, fluid administration, hospitalization/ICU care, euthanasia and necropsy support, diagnostic testing (in-house bloodwork, fecal exams, urinalysis)
- Study-specific procedures including: IVP administration, animal monitoring, surgical support, sedation/anesthesia support, blood collection
- Lab and veterinary equipment maintenance; controlled substance inventory management

Requirements:
- Complete a Veterinary Technician program (2- or 4-year); LVT licensed in at least one state with ability to become licensed in Michigan within first year
- Ability to wear required PPE (e.g., N95 respirators, ear/eye protection)
- 2+ years industry or private practice experience preferred

Highly Desired Skills/Attributes:
- Prior clinical research experience as an LVT
- Experience training veterinary technical staff

Additional Information:
- Travel between sites may be required
- May work with zoonotic animal pathogens/chemicals and in ABSL-2 facilities with showering in/out
