Role Summary
The Lead HVAC Technician is a maintenance position overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role ensures HVAC systems operate efficiently and comply with regulatory standards to maintain optimal climate control for sensitive pharmaceutical products.
Responsibilities
- Safety: Conduct daily activities with a safety-first mindset. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance activities.
- Compliance: Complete all work in a timely manner and in accordance with GMP procedures.
- Documentation: Complete all documentation associated with daily maintenance activities, including work orders and post-maintenance documentation.
- Communication: Pass vital information to appropriate parties related to critical equipment issues through oral and written communication.
- Lead a team of HVAC technicians and contractors in preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
- Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems including chillers, air handling units, and building automation systems (BAS) to ensure compliance with cGMPs.
- Monitoring Systems: Regularly monitor HVAC equipment performance to identify issues before they escalate.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical failures and repair HVAC components such as compressors, pumps, and refrigeration units.
- Preventive Maintenance: Execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and safety compliance.
- Collaboration: Work with engineering teams to implement system upgrades while ensuring safety and quality standards.
- Emergency Response: Participate in rotational on-call duties for emergency repairs outside regular hours.
Qualifications
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership directing or overseeing other HVAC technicians.
- Education: Associateโs degree in HVAC technology or related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of HVAC maintenance experience in a pharmaceutical or regulated environment; industrial HVAC systems experience essential.
- Certifications: EPA certification for refrigerants required; additional HVAC certifications advantageous.
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge of HVAC systems including electrical controls and building management systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for diagnosing complex issues quickly.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with team and other departments.
- Attention to detail in maintaining records and safety compliance.
- Training and collaboration with other crafts and reliability teams.
Education
- As listed in Qualifications: Associateโs degree in HVAC technology or related field; equivalent experience acceptable.
Additional Requirements
- Entry into manufacturing areas requires appropriate PPE.
- Potential to provide support outside normal hours (nights, weekends, holidays).
- Minimal travel within Lilly network.
- Role may evolve as the greenfield site transitions to ongoing HVAC program maintenance.
- Backup support for HVAC supervisor as needed.
