Lead (Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability) EHSS Engineer

Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain EHSS-focused corporate social responsibility management systems aligned with mission and values.
- Support business growth by assessing EHSS impacts of new projects/processes in owner/architect/contractor meetings.
- Apply environmental compliance/stewardship expertise (air, water, hazardous waste, materials management, chemical reporting); implement programs company-wide; drive continuous improvement and sustainability.
- Apply product stewardship, qualitative occupational exposure assessments, and high-potent compound safety expertise.
- Drive health and safety compliance (injury/illness prevention, materials handling, energy control, biosafety, radiation safety, lab safety, PPE assessments, occupational health, fall protection, emergency preparedness).
- Oversee site water use/discharge control (permit writing, agency notifications, monitoring, sampling, reporting, records retention).
- Oversee site waste management (pollution prevention, chemical/biological waste removal, waste profiles, manifests, inspections, environmental reporting/records retention).
- Complete chemical reporting and community right-to-know submittals; maintain inventory and SDSs; identify EPA/OSHA-listed materials.
- Develop engineering controls for hazards (biological, high-potent compounds, chemical, energy, flammable liquids, fall protection).
- Develop and implement temporary worker/contractor safety protocols.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or environmental engineering.
- Minimum 8+ years relevant experience in pharma/life sciences/chemical engineering.
- 6+ years EHSS experience in high-level expansion projects.
- Proven successful interface with multi-level regulatory agencies.
- EHSS management systems auditing experience.
- Project management skills (detail, timelines, results).
- Ability to develop and sustain an EHS culture; integrity and alignment with EHS mission/values.

Preferred:
- Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist.
- FDA-regulated environment experience.

Job Location:
- On-site full time in Durham, NC or Silver Spring, MD; up to 10% travel.

Salary/Benefits:
- Salary range: $105,500–$150,000 per year.
