Role Summary
The Key Account Manager (KAM) is a field-based role responsible for representing Akebia products to physicians and healthcare professionals, performing total territory account management, and developing consultative relationships with Renal HCPs. The role includes delivering clinical and economic knowledge, presenting the productsโ value proposition, and developing an actionable territory business plan to achieve and exceed annual sales goals within a specific geography.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize local market opportunities among nephrologists, renal dietitians, group practices, and dialysis facilities
- Develop and maintain product and disease area knowledge, and communicate Akebia clinical data to customers professionally
- Develop and evaluate account business plans to meet strategic goals and align with evolving customer segments
- Present account business plans to management
- Communicate clinical and economic information to large group practices, physician executives, and medical directors in line with promotional guidelines
- Provide account management support to initiate and maintain patient use of Akebia products
- Serve as a resource regarding payer policies, reimbursement regulations, Medicare/Medicaid rules, OSHA and HIPAA compliance
- Capitalize on formulary access through strategic targeting and pull-through planning
- Maximize use of approved resources to achieve territory and account-level goals
- Stay current on marketplace developments (e.g., VBC, Bundles, LDO quarterly reports)
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree or RN (Associates in Applied Science); 5+ years pharma/account management selling experience
- Required: Valid driverโs license; approximately 25% travel
- Preferred: Renal experience
- Preferred: Graduate business or healthcare-related degree
- Preferred: Buy-and-bill experience and success
- Preferred: Biologic/biotech sales and reimbursement experience
- Preferred: Nephrology therapeutic area experience
