Job Title: Experienced Automation and Robotics Engineer

Role: Experienced Automation and Robotics Engineer supporting integrated discovery workcells in Johnson & Johnson's Innovative Medicine R&D. Objectives include designing, deploying, troubleshooting, and improving robotic workcells, transfer stations, and automation peripherals to enable reliable scientific workflows. Responsibilities encompass physical system design, integration, testing, safety compliance, vendor coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires translating scientific lab requirements into safe, maintainable hardware and controls interfaces, ensuring operational robustness and safety. Qualifications include a Bachelor's in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Robotics, or related fields with 3+ years (or equivalent advanced degrees and less experience) in automation controls, electromechanical systems, or instrumentation. Skills in robotics, sensors, control hardware, troubleshooting, and technical documentation are essential; experience with PLCs, robot controllers, digital twin tools, and safety systems is preferred. The position involves cross-functional collaboration with lab scientists, vendors, EHS, and facilities, with travel possible for vendor assessments, system commissioning, and site visits. Work setup is based in Spring House, PA, with potential travel. The role supports the transition toward AI-native, integrated laboratory automation systems to enhance reproducibility, data quality, and operational scalability.
