Role Summary
The internship provides an introduction to pharmaceutical and bioanalytical sciences. The intern will learn and perform assay support for ongoing research projects, participate in the development and qualification of serum/plasma and/or tissue biomarker assays, and support general laboratory activities as directed by a supervisor. Location: West Chester, PA; Length: at least 12 weeks; Schedule: 40 hours per week; Pay: TBD.
Responsibilities
- During the 12 week program, you will gain in-depth insight into the Biomarker and Metabolism Analytics/DMPK department.
- Supported by a mentor and experienced colleagues, you will be directly involved in daily business and be assigned tasks within diverse projects.
- You will also play an important role in the development of concepts and initiatives within the Biomarker and Metabolism Analytics in Research & Development.
- Conducts laboratory experiments according to established protocols under supervision.
- Accurately records experimental data and results in a laboratory notebook.
- Clearly communicates experimental results to the supervisor/manager.
- Analyzes experimental data using applicable instrument software and spreadsheets, performs basic statistical analyses, graphs data and prepares slides for scientific presentations.
- Maintains organization and cleanliness of the lab work area and follows all established site laboratory safety practices.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- May attend short training courses.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a BA or BS program in biochemistry, biology or relevant biological science, and completed at least one year of college-level coursework.
- Completion of some college-level laboratory coursework preferred.
Skills
- Laboratory techniques and ability to follow established protocols.
- Data analysis using instrument software and spreadsheets; basic statistical analyses; graphing data; preparation of slides for presentations.
- Clear and effective communication of experimental results.
- Strong organizational skills and adherence to lab safety practices.
Additional Requirements
- Physical requirements: extensive bench work in the laboratory and computer use; standing for long periods; repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting; PPE required to minimize exposure to chemical and biological hazards.
