Role Summary
The Instrument & Electrical Technician is an integral part of the Engineering team based out of the US - Chicago Heights, IL site. This role works within a Reliability Based Maintenance environment, maintaining state-of-the-art electronic ("smart") process measuring and control instrumentation for fermentation, packaging, and utility equipment and systems, as well as the companyβs power distribution systems and electrical services for fermentation, packaging, utility, and facility equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, improvements, and modifications to process instrumentation/controls on production and qualified utility equipment and systems including fermenters, pick & place robots, baggers, palletizers, boilers, RO water system and other production equipment.
- Configure, maintain, and repair complex computer systems, from Process Logic Controllers to Distributive control systems; calibrate, maintain, and repair state-of-the-art electronic ("smart") process measuring and control instruments, while maintaining expertise in older technologies such as pneumatic.
- Provide training with respect to maintenance of instrumentation equipment and systems in compliance with SOPs, GMPs, GLPs, PSM, etc.
- Serve as maintenance advisor to provide input to projects in areas of equipment design, parts and material selection, documentation, testing, problem solving, maintenance requirements, project scope, and follow up.
- Be responsible for priority assessment and decision making related to troubleshooting, diagnostics, assembly, repair, and proactive maintenance of equipment and systems in a cost-effective manner.
- Read and understand drawings/blueprints for installation/repair of new and existing equipment.
- Use test/calibration instruments and computers for troubleshooting and equipment diagnostics.
- Perform maintenance on production, utility, and facility equipment including high-voltage substations/switchgear/motors, explosion-proof and intrinsically-safe electrical systems, variable frequency drives, PLCs, generators/UPS, building control systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and a wide variety of AC/DC industrial electrical applications.
- Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and components of plant machinery and equipment; install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
- Connect power supply wires to machines, connect cables between machines, diagnose malfunctioning equipment (transformers, motors, lighting fixtures), and replace damaged wires or cables and faulty electrical components.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Journeyman Certificate with experience in a manufacturing environment, or a Technical/Vocational School diploma from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2+ years of electrical or high voltage related work experience. Experience with PLC/DCS systems and instrumentation is strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: A good understanding of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and operations, with relevant technical proficiency; solid understanding of GMP manufacturing processes, equipment and facilities is preferred; familiarity with state-of-the-art technology; ability to articulate issues and solutions; ability to interact with all levels of the organization; capable of analyzing problems and determining corrective/preventative actions with minimal assistance; ability to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changes; computer proficiency with email, internet, and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel).
