Role Summary
Leadership role establishing AI-based drug discovery collaborations and partnerships within Internal Medicines’ AI-Driven Cardiometabolic Drug Discovery Institute. Partner with IM leadership to build a collaborative ecosystem where AI and bench scientists co-create value for patients. Engage with entrepreneurs, biotech companies and academic organizations to identify emerging opportunities at the interface of AI and cardiometabolic disease drug discovery. Lead the scientific, logistical and business aspects of complex partnerships and provide updates to senior leadership on progress and milestones. Work location: hybrid; on-site ~2.5 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Partner with IM leadership to accelerate innovation leveraging entrepreneurial and scientific advice, funding, and space to derisk and develop tangible concepts in CMD-specific drug discovery
- Act as an “entrepreneur in residence” focused on identifying, implementing and managing high-profile collaborative or incubator partnerships that advance AI-driven strategies in discovery and development of cardiometabolic drug candidates
- Represent IM to external collaboration partners and forge relationships with academic, biopharma and entrepreneur stakeholders to attract ideas and catalyze new AI-driven approaches to cardiometabolic drug discovery
- Establish oversight and metrics for portfolio of collaborative projects to measure success and demonstrate value generation
- Interface between IM, Business Development, Legal, Discovery Network and other supporting lines to navigate collaborations and maximize return on external science investments
- Actively manage collaboration and partnership risks, devising and implementing mitigation strategies
- Communicate collaboration status to senior leaders and champion the asset to secure and deploy resources to deliver the collaboration plan
Qualifications
- Required: PhD or MD with at least 10+ years’ experience in Internal Medicine-based scientific disciplines and broad understanding of cardiometabolic disease biology
- Required: Contemporary knowledge of applying AI to solve drug discovery problems
- Required: Strong track record in business development with ability to deliver results from complex alliances among industry, venture, biotech and academic stakeholders
- Required: Experience leveraging venture investment strategies to incubate new companies and joint ventures
- Required: Experience developing collaborative research plans with milestone-based incentives
- Required: Ability to facilitate complex, strategic conversations
- Required: Strong leadership and presentation skills
- Required: Demonstrates breadth of diverse leadership experiences, ability to influence and collaborate with peers, coach others, and drive meaningful business impact
