Position Summary
The Histology Technician I assists the Histology/IHC department with microtomy, embedding, re-embedding, and non-high complexity tasks such as slide preparation. Works under direct supervision and follows standard procedures and written instructions.

Job Responsibilities
- Perform Basic Histology, Microtomy, Embedding, Re-embedding, and non-high complexity tasks (e.g., cover-slipping, unloading instruments, making buffers, changing reagents).
- Execute laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures; complete training and routine competencies.
- Maintain specimen diagnostic viability and ensure correct patient labeling by verifying match blocks and slide case IDs at each step; print labels/slides as appropriate.
- Document in laboratory logs and the LIS as directed by SOPs.
- Maintain laboratory equipment; ensure proper working order and notify leadership for maintenance/repairs.
- Identify issues that may affect test performance/reporting and take appropriate action.
- Assist with other related duties/special projects as needed; accept other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- 1+ year experience in microtomy and embedding in a Histology laboratory, or 2 years as a Histology Technician Trainee, or 1 year as a Histology Technician Trainee plus completion of NAACLS accredited Histology program/high complexity requirements.
- High school diploma.
- Pre-employment: criminal background check, drug screening, and reference verification.

Preferred Qualifications
- HT (ASCP) certification (strongly recommended).
- NAACLS accredited program (AAS in Histotechnology or equivalent).

Other/Conditions
- Periodic travel; some evenings, weekends, and/or holidays may be required.
- Pre-employment may include credit check for certain positions.

Training
- Job-specific, safety, and compliance training assigned based on job functions.
