The Head of Learning and Development, Commercial (US-based) is a senior, enterprise-level leader responsible for owning and driving the end-to-end Learning & Development strategy for AbbVie’s US Commercial organization.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with US Commercial VPs, Brand Team Leaders, and Sales Leaders to align learning priorities with US commercial strategy, brand priorities, and launch objectives; deliver therapeutic area and product knowledge training.
- Partner with Market Access and Patient Services to ensure field force training delivers measurable in-market outcomes; refine programs using performance data and business feedback.
- Leverage digital platforms, virtual learning technologies, and data to create scalable, experiential learning solutions.
- Work with the Compliance Steering Committee to govern, document, and measure US Commercial training on corporate policies/procedures, PhRMA guidelines, and AbbVie Code of Business Conduct.
- Manage vendor relationships and training program budgets; demonstrate cost efficiency and fiscal discipline and assess return on learning investment.
- Partner with Enterprise Learning to bring US Commercial perspective to enterprise programs and ensure alignment with AbbVie’s learning ecosystem.
- Inspire, coach, and lead direct reports to achieve measurable learning and business outcomes.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s strongly preferred.
- 10+ years in Learning & Development, Sales Training, Commercial Excellence, or related field in pharma/life sciences.
- Sales and/or sales management experience at District Manager level or above (Regional Director strongly preferred).
- Experience leading large-scale L&D strategies with measurable business outcomes.
- Experience partnering with VP+ Commercial leaders.
- Experience managing teams, $3MM+ budgets, and vendors.
Preferred:
- Matrix organization experience across business units/therapeutic areas.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical compliance (PhRMA, Code of Business Conduct, operating guidelines).
- Proficiency with digital learning platforms/LMS and virtual delivery.
- Evaluation framework experience linking learning to business impact.
- Engagement with external learning forums and networks.
