Role Summary

Head of Procurement External Manufacturing Specialty Care and Pasteur is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving Sanofi's global External Manufacturing & Services (EM&S) procurement strategy for Large Molecules, focusing on delivering enterprise-wide value through innovative sourcing strategies and strategic Contract Manufacturing Organizations/Contract Development Manufacturing Organizations partnerships. The role oversees an evolving external spend of more than $1B. Location options include Morristown, NJ or Cambridge, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Drive global EM&S Growth Strategy implementation for Large Molecules in collaboration with Business and Procurement teams
  • Act as strategic partner for R&D centers in developing and executing Clinical CMO strategy worldwide
  • Lead Make vs. Buy decisions aligned with EM&S global strategy
  • Optimize global CMO/CDMO partnerships to maximize value creation and competitive advantage
  • Develop and execute global category strategies based on market intelligence
  • Lead complex, high-value global sourcing initiatives and negotiations
  • Work closely with Business on managing global supplier relationship programs
  • Drive procurement excellence across Total Cost of Ownership, Risk Management, Innovation, CSR, and Sustainability
  • Establish and manage competitive CMO & CDMO panel aligned with EM&S strategy
  • Build and lead a global high-performing team with strong business acumen
  • Champion transformation initiatives across the procurement organization
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement within EM&S framework
  • Deliver world-class savings objectives aligned with EM&S targets
  • Partner with Finance to develop robust tracking mechanisms for external spend
  • Contribute to global budget planning and long-range strategic initiatives

Qualifications

  • Education: Pharmaceutical Engineering or related field required; Master's degree in Business Administration preferred
  • Experience: 15+ years in senior management roles; proven track record in global pharmaceutical/biotech procurement; demonstrated success in global positions; strong background in External Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management
  • Core Competencies: Global strategic thinking and enterprise-wide business acumen; ability to influence and align multiple stakeholders across a global matrix organization; proven change management capabilities in complex global environments; excellence in leading global, diverse teams; strong analytical and decision-making skills; outstanding communication and presentation abilities; deep understanding of global pharmaceutical manufacturing and CMO landscape
  • Technical Knowledge: Expertise in global procurement best practices and processes; understanding of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing; knowledge of global GMP and regulatory requirements; proficiency in digital tools and analytics
  • Leadership Qualities: Global mindset with ability to drive enterprise-wide initiatives; results-oriented with strong execution focus; innovative thinking and ability to challenge status quo; high ethical standards and commitment to compliance; demonstrated ability to lead through influence in matrix organizations

Education

  • Pharmaceutical Engineering or related field required
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred
  • Additional procurement certification preferred
