Role Summary
The Head of Hematology Franchise, Pipeline Commercialization Strategy is a senior leadership role reporting to the VP, PCS Oncology. The role acts as a thought partner to the leadership team and cross-functional partners, focusing on developing strategies and tactics to accelerate leadership in hematological malignancies and expand into adjacent areas. The position leads strategic value creation, portfolio prioritization, and commercialization planning across the hematology franchise and partners with commercial, medical, and development functions to maximize value for patients and AbbVie.
Responsibilities
- Develop, champion and communicate vision and strategy to stakeholders to guide portfolio prioritization, asset strategies and BD investments within hematological malignancies.
- Analyze market dynamics, value drivers, growth opportunities, target product profiles, positioning and revenue potential for Phase II+ assets to support compelling portfolio value propositions and investment theses.
- Define and drive strategic value creation across lifecycle with R&D and commercial partners, integrating internal and external perspectives.
- Partner with the PCS VP to implement optimal commercial strategies to maximize asset value and adopt an integrated portfolio approach within the franchise.
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Health Impact, Early & Late Clinical Development, and Commercial leads to develop scientific platforms and data generation to meet global and area requirements for labels and claims; oversee development of product Target Product Profiles (TPP).
- Oversee development of business cases for governance endorsements; identify new value generation to accelerate commercialization and maximize value for patients and the company.
- Prioritize leverage points in the treatment process and establish behavioral objectives for stakeholder groups to define commercial strategy for assets and the franchise.
- Manage risk, opportunities, and issues at strategic and operational levels; initiate geo-strategy and indication prioritization with R&D and Affiliates for reimbursement and access strategies.
- Establish an external network with clinical experts; demonstrate courageous leadership and implement program structures to support timely decisions.
- Collaborate with Investor Relations to manage external messaging for analysts; manage partnerships and alliances to maximize value and ensure compliance.
- As a people leader, coach and develop talent, set goals, manage performance, and act as a talent magnet for the PCS team; broaden AbbVieโs oncology network with KOLs, payers, and patient advocates.
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree required; advanced degree (MBA, Ph.D., or MD) preferred
- 10-15+ years of experience in progressive commercial leadership roles in marketing and/or sales within the pharmaceutical industry; recent in-line operational experience and P&L ownership in US or major markets preferred
- Successful launch experience preferred; managed care experience preferred
- Oncology therapeutic experience required, with Multiple Myeloma experience preferred; global experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to influence and manage complex internal and external stakeholders
- Strong strategic marketing skills with a structured approach and solid scientific/clinical understanding
- Strong financial and commercial acumen with understanding of P&L drivers and ability to forecast investments and top-line value
- Strong executive presence and leadership capable of presenting to senior leaders and modeling leadership behaviors
- Proven track record in leading organizational change and in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teamwork within a matrix organization
