Role Summary

The Field Medical Outcomes Director works in the field to inform customer decision-making and improve population health through real-world data analytics, pharmacoeconomic analyses, outcomes evaluations, and medical presentations. The role educates customers on the clinical and economic impact of Pfizer medicines and products and provides disease-area/therapeutic-area/product-based expertise for designated TA areas, focusing on integrated health care organizations, payer customers, and Specialty Pharmacy Providers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all internal/external SOPs/Rules/Regulations.
  • Provide objective and scientifically sound medical information regarding Pfizer’s medicines and disease states through pharmacoeconomic models, outcomes tools, HOPEs, non-interventional studies, and collaborations.
  • Prioritize customer and Pfizer needs to develop and implement Real-World Evidence-based outcomes tools (e.g., HOPEs) to identify opportunities to improve patient care, close quality gaps, and advance population health management.
  • Serve as the Field Medical Outcomes lead for assigned customers, developing and executing a medical account plan, representing Medical Affairs, sharing customer insights, and identifying collaboration opportunities.
  • Explain study design, methodology, data analysis, and interpretation to customers.
  • Engage with key stakeholders (Quality Improvement Organizations, Advocacy Groups, coalitions, medical/healthcare associations) to align with Pfizer’s strategic Medical objectives.
  • Provide Medical support for HIT initiatives, including initial assessment, triage of opportunities, assessing capabilities, and applying clinical relevance to proposed HIT methodologies.
  • Analyze workflows within clinical health information systems to reduce care gaps, improve care efficiency, and maximize quality and population health.
  • Develop clinical content that reflects the clinical perspective and leverages information technology to build innovative tools and resources.
  • Provide expertise on electronic data collection and planning for Field Medical colleagues.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify, design, and deploy HIT solutions aligned with Field Medical goals.
  • Support development of HIT/clinical informatics resources for new product launches and indications.
  • Maintain and utilize Clinical Informatics capabilities to enable effective collaborations with external customers.
  • Participate in internal teams to create tools, resources, and educational materials for internal and external use.
  • Represent Pfizer Medical Affairs leadership with clinical/professional associations and uphold medical professionalism.
  • Enhance customer recognition of Pfizer Medical through collaborative projects, publications, and healthcare awards.
  • Provide approved medical content on Pfizer products in the designated TA, focusing on organized customers (National/Regional Payers and SPPs).
  • Maintain Pfizer Scientific Leadership by staying current with medical and scientific developments, reviewing literature, and attending conferences.
  • Respond to unsolicited customer requests regarding scientific interpretation and pharmacoeconomic impact to support formulary decisions and patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal Pfizer colleagues to understand outcomes of interest and data-analysis needs of assigned customers.
  • Maintain market and customer knowledge in a dynamic marketplace; manage a large volume of field-based projects with sound prioritization and judgment; meet internal training requirements; comply with policies.
  • Educate HCOs about patient-care gaps aligned with medical strategy to enhance understanding of disease state and guideline-based care.
  • Meet leadership-defined expectations regarding the number of medical stakeholders engaged; contribute to medical content strategy and aligned field medical tactics.
  • Provide strong territory/customer leadership and participate on Medical/TA or cross-functional committees; mentor and onboard colleagues; maintain licensure; continue professional development.

Qualifications

  • Required: MD or DO with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Required: Experience in clinical, formulary, and/or other management experience; experience in Managed Care, pharmaceutical industry, and/or Quality Improvement.
  • Required: Demonstrated proficiency in Data Analytics and/or HEOR activities with strong methodological skills (study design, data analysis, interpretation) in health services research.
  • Required: Significant experience interacting with payers and other organized customers.
  • Required: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Required: Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to respond to multiple external/internal customers’ demands; constructive conflict management.
  • Required: Broad leadership experiences with ability to influence and collaborate to create business impact.
  • Required: Strong analytic skills, creativity, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Required: Ability to communicate large amounts of scientific information clearly and concisely.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in health science (required).

Additional Requirements

  • Valid US driver’s license and driving record in compliance with company standards. Any DUI/DWI or other impaired driving citation within the past 7 years will disqualify you from being hired.
  • Flexibility to travel 40–50% of the time.
  • Reasonable proximity to an airline hub city.
  • Ability to work on weekends occasionally (e.g., advisory boards and congress meetings).
  • Ability to operate a Pfizer company car and regularly fly; must be within a 2-hour drive of a major airport; travel up to 40–50% of time.
