Role Summary

The External Scientific Engagement Director Obesity is a strategic and visionary medical leader across the BioPharmaceutical Medical (BPM) Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) organization who drives AstraZenecaโ€™s external leadership, including partnerships with key external experts and scientific societies to improve healthcare delivery and patient care around the world. The ESE Director supports the CVRM portfolio and external engagement strategies to address unmet medical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive partnerships with scientific societies and healthcare system decision makers to improve healthcare delivery globally, from brand-specific to CVRM-wide perspectives.
  • Identify and lead strategic advocacy and engagement plans with KEEs to develop experts for global, regional, and local medical activities.
  • Strategically drive external initiatives through grants and sponsorships that support patient engagement, disease state education, and policy issues aligned with franchise goals.
  • Map clinical guidelines across the CVRM space, prepare and communicate key updates, and create plans to drive guideline implementation at global levels.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs to develop and execute medical education that includes new clinical evidence, real-world evidence, and guideline recommendations to increase HCP confidence and improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s and advanced degree (MS, MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) preferred
  • 6+ years of experience within the biopharmaceutical industry, ideally in externally-facing or Medical Affairs roles
  • Understanding of healthcare systems and experience partnering with external healthcare professionals and/or scientific societies
  • Track record in delivering new solutions and working across cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of CVRM diseases with preference for obesity-related experience
  • Experience with the USA healthcare system preferred
  • Location: strong preference for Boston, Massachusetts, USA
