Overview
- Executive Director, Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property (IP) within the Jazz Global IP Function.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute global IP strategies, primarily for neuroscience; supervise IP team members supporting neuroscience programs.
- Provide strategic business-enabling IP advice to cross-functional teams across research, drug development, and commercialization.
- Strengthen the IP portfolio via project-team engagement, collaboration, and patent/competitive landscape analysis.
- Build global IP portfolios from invention capture through patent issuance.
- Manage worldwide IP portfolios for in-licensed and internally developed IP (as assigned).
- Support Corporate Development on collaborations/licensing: IP due diligence, analyses, and input to transactional documents/negotiations.
- Perform freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity analyses, risk evaluation, and mitigation.
- Manage outside counsel for worldwide patent prosecution and IP/legal opinions.
- Counsel internal clients on IP risks/opportunities (patentability, FTO, infringement, validity, regulatory exclusivity).
- Educate senior leadership; clear publications/presentations; advise on adversarial proceedings (IP disputes, litigation, IPRs/PGRs, European/foreign oppositions).
Qualifications
- Fully qualified US or European Patent Attorney with 12+ years biopharma IP experience; significant in-house or combined in-house/law firm experience.
- Undergraduate degree in biological science/biochemistry/chemistry or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience managing IP practitioners/staff; IP due diligence and licensing/collaboration agreements.
- Adversarial/administrative proceedings experience (plus).

- Strategic, independent and collaborative; strong communication; manage outside counsel/external resources; prioritize and handle diverse workload.
