About Sebetralstat

Sebetralstat is an investigational, novel oral plasma kallikrein inhibitor for the treatment of hereditary angioedema (HAE). We have filed multiple regulatory applications seeking approval of sebetralstat as the first oral, on-demand treatment for HAE in individuals aged 12 and older, with ongoing studies exploring its use in children aged 2 to 11. If approved, sebetralstat has the potential to become the foundational therapy for HAE management worldwide.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Executive Director, Accounting to oversee the US accounting function for our growing biotech company. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of financial reporting, accounting systems and regulatory compliance, with a strong track record of leadership in a fast-paced, innovative environment. This role will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the company's financial statements, driving efficient accounting operations and supporting key business decisions that align with the companyโ€™s financial goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the US accounting department, providing mentorship, development and guidance to accounting team
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define accounting policies and strategy in alignment with company goals
  • Oversee preparation and timely submission of accurate and compliant financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, or other relevant accounting standards
  • Ensure SOX compliance, managing internal control processes and systems to ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting
  • Supervise the accounting systems to improve operational efficiency and accuracy
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of accounting processes and implement improvements to streamline workflows and enhance reporting accuracy
  • Identify, assess and mitigate financial risks related to accounting, treasury and financial reporting
  • Foster a collaborative environment within the accounting team, promoting continuous learning and professional development
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with other departments, including commercial, R&D, supply chain, legal and HR to ensure alignment on financial objectives
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and other financial consultants, ensuring smooth audits and the timely filing of taxes and other reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (CPA required)
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in the biotech or life sciences industry
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, regulatory compliance and internal controls in the biotech sector
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor teams, with excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Expertise in ERP systems and advanced proficiency with financial software and reporting tools
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SEC reporting requirements and other relevant regulatory bodies
  • Experience working in fast-growing, innovative environments with a demonstrated ability to manage change and implement scalable processes
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial challenges
  • Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals with familiarity with research and development (R&D) costing, clinical trials and regulatory requirements preferred
  • Knowledge of public company reporting and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) compliance preferred
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively with executive teams, board members and external stakeholders
