Role Summary
The EHS Specialist I role assists with the implementation of established programs, performs work on EHS projects within the identified parameters, and exercises judgement within these defined parameters to determine appropriate action. A foundational background in EHS regulations / standard industry practices is expected in order to review regulations, apply industry best practices and consult with peers to research & apply any remediation or actions that may be warranted.
Responsibilities
- Assists in implementing various EHS programs and initiatives under the direction of the Senior EHS Specialist or Associate Manager of EHS.
- Assists in implementing safety management systems and environmental systems.
- Assists with implementing emergency response programs.
- Conducts weekly surveys of laboratory and waste areas where radioactive materials are used.
- Assists with EHS on the job training and class room training.
- Performs routine ergonomic assessments and makes recommendations.
- Documents and investigates work-related injuries and/or illnesses and implements corrective actions.
- Maintains industrial hygiene (IH) equipment and performs IH monitoring of laboratory and support personnel to assess potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Performs EHS audits of labs, support areas, and offices.
- Responsible for having PPE readily available to laboratory personnel.
- Assists with revising safety related polices and procedures as required.
- Assists in training new hires by providing EHS safety orientation which includes, but is not limited to: emergency preparedness, hazard communication, blood borne pathogens, handling chemical, biological, and radioactive hazards, safety compliance procedure, waste requirements, etc.
- Maintains and organizes EHS stock rooms.
- Performs respiratory protection inspections.
- Performs data analysis using data analytics software and Excel spreadsheets.
- Participates in professional development training and activities.
- Available 24/7 for emergencies that may arise at Regeneron.
Qualifications
- To be considered for this position you must possess a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study with up to 4 years experience in an Environmental Health & Safety practice area. Occasional requirement to work overtime.
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literate. Ability to learn specialized software applications.
- Ability to conduct EHS training sessions.
- Ability to use a PC, specialized safety and industrial hygiene equipment, and various specialized applications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study (required)
Additional Requirements
- On-site role: 5 days per week at the Global HQ Campus in Tarrytown; not available as remote/hybrid.
