Role Summary
Engineer - Automation Engineering – Small Molecule API. The engineer provides automation support across site operating areas and for capital projects within the Automation Engineering Department at Lilly Foundry, contributing to right first time facility startup and ongoing manufacturing operations, while mentoring the process control team and ensuring reliable, compliant control applications and systems.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership and mentorship of the process control team including design, controls philosophy, implementation, and commissioning
- Process control work implementation and coordination
- Develop and implement the Automation Engineering Project Plan
- Technically lead and oversee work of Site Area leads and System Integrator (Functional Requirements, Design Specifications, DCS Application Software, Test Specifications)
- Lead/design reviews and DeltaV application software reviews; participate in FATs
- Lead a team of automation engineers supporting commissioning
- Provide periodic status updates to Project Management
- Devising functional requirements and process control strategies with Process Engineering
- DCS and SCADA software design, coding/configuration, and testing (sequence logic, graphics, batch software)
- Perform automation engineering activities including design, tuning, and troubleshooting of control loops
- Implement and support electronic systems (plant historians, applications, integration) for production data
- Maintain validated state of site control systems per Lilly quality standards, including validation strategies and documentation
- Automation support for capital projects including new product introductions
- Promote automation to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and compliance
- Develop a network of corporate contacts and leverage corporate expertise when needed
Qualifications
- Minimum B.S. in Engineering; experience in Automation Engineering, preferably in Small Molecule API manufacturing
- At least 2+ years of experience in Biopharma engineering, operations, or manufacturing
Skills
- Experience with SCADA, DCS, PLC, and MES systems (DeltaV, Rockwell, Syncade, etc.)
- Ability to facilitate and drive organizational decision-making
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences
- Knowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, and computer system validation
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
