Role Summary
Engineer - Automation Engineering – Hardware, Instrumentation and Controls. Provides automation support for one or more operating areas across site and/or for capital projects. Focus on delivering reliable and compliant control applications and systems in manufacturing at Foundry, with mentorship and technical leadership within the process control organization.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership
- Mentor process control team, including design, controls philosophy, implementation and commissioning
- Process control work implementation and coordination
- Develop and implement the Automation Engineering Project Plan
- Technically lead and oversee the work of Site Area leads and System Integrators; review Functional Requirements, Design Specifications, automation hardware, application software, Test Specifications
- Lead/participate in design reviews and Site system hardware reviews; attend equipment and software FATs
- Lead a team of automation engineers supporting commissioning
- Provide periodic status updates to Project Management
- Devise functional requirements and process control strategies for control systems in collaboration with Automation System Administrators
- Perform Automation Engineering activities including design, tuning and troubleshooting of control loops, devices and hardware
- Implement and support electronic systems used to capture process automation related production data
- Maintain the validated state of the site control system hardware in line with Lilly quality standards; develop and execute validation strategies and documentation
- Automation support for capital projects including new product introductions
- Promote the use of automation to improve productivity, operational efficiency and compliance
- Develop a network of corporate contacts and leverage corporate expertise when needed
- Perform site support including shift rotation for day-to-day activities
Qualifications
- Minimum B.S. in Engineering; experience in Automation Engineering, preferably in major pharmaceutical manufacturing
- A minimum of 2+ years working experience in Biopharma engineering, operations, or manufacturing
Skills
- Knowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, computer system validation
- Experience in design, development, commissioning and qualification of highly automated greenfield manufacturing sites utilizing SCADA, DCS, BMS; familiarity with hardware, valves, motors, control panels, and robotics systems
- Ability to influence peers and business partners
- Strong problem-solving, planning and organizational skills; good written and verbal communication
Education
- B.S. in Engineering (required); advanced degrees or certifications are a plus
