Role Summary
Center Medical Specialist at a plasma donation center. Performs donor medical screening and physical examinations to determine donor suitability, builds rapport with donors, maintains donor and staff confidentiality, and educates donors about health and test results. Evaluates donor injuries and adverse events and assists in staff training, including Hepatitis vaccine administration.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical examination and establish medical history to determine donor suitability
- Build rapport with donors to ensure overall customer satisfaction
- Ensure donor and staff confidentiality
- Responsible for donor awareness to potential hazards
- Provide donor education regarding general health and provide counseling regarding unacceptable test results
- Evaluate & manage donor injuries and adverse events
- Perform evaluations of any history of illness or medications to ensure continued donor suitability
- Assist in employee training
- Administer employee Hepatitis Vaccine program
Qualifications
- Educated and currently certified/licensed in the state of employment and according to state requirements as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Licensed Vocation Nurse, Paramedic, Advanced EMT, or EMT Basic. Current CPR certification required.

Additional Requirements
- Work is performed both standing and sitting for up to 2 to 4 hours per day
- Bending and twisting of the neck 1 to 2 hours per day
- Frequent hand movement; capable of precise coordinated movements
- Frequent foot movement; may squat, crouch or sit on one's heels occasionally
- Light lifting up to 50 lbs; hearing acuity essential
- Color perception and vision requirements, with corrective options as needed
- Ability to communicate effectively; works independently and follows instructions
- Work is performed in a plasma center; exposure to biological fluids and potential infectious organisms; exposure to electrical equipment; PPE required
- Exposure to extreme cold below 32 degrees F in plasma freezers
